{"value"=>"<p>Dennis Parichy (1939-) is an American lighting designer, whom from 1964 has designed over four hundred lighting designs for theatrical productions. Parichy's designs are an integral part of Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre, and other theatrical productions. Parichy graduated with a baccalaureate in theatre from Northwestern University in 1960, with additional lighting design training at the Lester Polakov Studio and Forum of Stage Design from 1965 to 1972. Parichy's recognitions include three Tony nominations and a Maraham Award for <span class=\"title\">Talley's Folly</span>; three Drama League awards, an Arizona Award, and the Carbonell Award for <span class=\"title\">Angels Fall</span>; and two nominations for the Barrymore Award, Philadelphia.</p> <p>Parichy was the Resident Lighting Designer for Circle Repertory Company for over fifty productions, as collaborator with Lanford Wilson the co-founder and resident playwright. Parichy worked on over thirty productions for the Manhattan Theatre Club, and eight productions for the Roundabout theatre. Other design credits include the Second Stage, The Signature Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, and the New York Theatre Company.</p> <p>Some highlights of Parichy's over 400 credits include <span class=\"title\"> Serenading Louie</span>, <span class=\"title\">The Mound Builders</span>, <span class=\"title\">Fifth of July</span>, <span class=\"title\">Talley's Folly</span>, <span class=\"title\">Redwood Curtain</span>, Penn and Teller productions, <span class=\"title\">The Cradle Will Rock</span>, <span class=\"title\"> Pericles</span>, <span class=\"title\">Twelfth Night</span>, <span class=\"title\">Faust</span>, <span class=\"title\">William Tell</span>, and <span class=\"title\">The King and I</span>.</p> <p>Parichy is currently the associate artist and lighting designer for the People's Light and Theatre Company in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and a lecturer in design at Purchase College in New York.</p>"}

When there are multiple venues for the same production, these theatres are listed under the title of the production. The Productions represent hundreds of theatrical lighting designs created by Parichy. These lighting designs were visible in many New York City productions, regional theatres, college theatrical productions, operas, special events, and occasionally in other countries.</p> <p>Parichy's lighting designs represent an extensive body of work as follows, <span class=\"title\">American Days</span>, <span class=\"title\">Angels Fall</span>, <span class=\"title\">Annie Get Your Gun</span>, <span class=\"title\">Boesman and Lena</span> <span class=\"title\">Book of Days</span>, <span class=\"title\">Cherry Orchard</span> and <span class=\"title\">The Fifth of July</span>, <span class=\"title\">The Cradle Will Rock</span>, <span class=\"title\">Fiddler on the Roof</span>, <span class=\"title\">Fifth of July</span>, <span class=\"title\">A Midsummer Night's Dream</span>, Penn and Teller (New York City and national tours), <span class=\"title\">Redwood Curtain</span>, and <span class=\"title\">Talley's Folly</span>.</p> <p>Parichy's early productions include <span class=\"title\">Balm in Gilead</span> (La Mama, 1965), <span class=\"title\">Coffee Grind Among Tea Leaves</span> (La Mama, 1967), <span class=\"title\">The Haunted House</span> (Café Cino, 1964) and <span class=\"title\">Ludlow Fair</span> (Café Cino, 1965). Café Cino was an Off-Off Broadway theatre that operated between 1958 through 1968 and is recognized as the birth place of the Off-Off Broadway theatre.</p> <p>Through the decades as Parichy gained more experience as a lighting designer, he retained extensive technical elements that include cues, focus charts, floor plans, hook-ups, notes, and light plots. The files hold Parichy's hand-drawn light plots. Parichy's working copies were kept with his other files. Some of the light plots are not complete and may be used in tandem with the working copies. There are also souvenir playbills in the collection that credit Parichy for his work on the productions.</p> <p>Another important and critical element for Parichy to prepare his lighting designs were scripts which he heavily annotated in order to plot out his lighting design.</p> <p>One of the most colorful aspects of the collection are the fabric swatches. There are several examples of fabric swatches (occasionally with sketches of clothing) that were retained with the productions. These swatches provide additional information as to how the lighting affected the colors of the actors' clothes. Examples of fabric swatches are located in the productions <span class=\"title\">Billy Budd</span>, <span class=\"title\">Born Yesterday</span>, <span class=\"title\">Death of A Salesman</span>, and <span class=\"title\">Rumors</span>.</p> <p>The Sound Recordings are from <span class=\"title\"> Arabian Nights</span>, <span class=\"title\">Keystone</span>, and <span class=\"title\">Lennon</span>.</p>"}
