The manuscripts consist of poems, reviews, essays, biographies, and other material, dating from 1895 to 1917, by Grant Allen, Laurence Binyon, Augustine Birrell, George Henry Borrow, Geoffrey Dearmer, Austin Dobson, James Elroy Flecker, George Gissing, Thomas Hardy, Henrietta May MacAubrey, Robert Malise Bowyer Nichols, Herbert Trench, Sir William Watson, Herbert George Wells, and Frida Wolfe, most of which was owned by Shorter. The correspondence consists of letters, dating from 1891 to 1924, from Shorter to Louis Becke, Sir Hall Caine, Padraic Colum, Joseph Conrad, Violet Hunt, James B. Pinker, John Morgan Richards, James B. Pinker and Son, and others, as well as letters relating to the author, many of which he previously owned, dating from 1853 to 1926, between various correspondents including Sir Hall Caine, Whitwell Elwin, Thomas Hardy, Henrietta Mary MacAubrey, Stephen Mackenna, Annie Doris Banfield Shorter, Algernon Charles Swinburne, William Butler Yeats, and others. There are letters to Shorter from William Archer, J. M. Barrie, Sir Hall Caine, Austin Dobson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, George Gissing, Thomas Hardy, Marie Adelaide Belloc Lowndes, Edward Verrall Lucas, Fortomino Matania, Alice Christiana (Thompson) Meynell, Arthur Reed Ropes, Lady Margaret Sackville, James Stephens, Sir William Watson, H. G. Wells, W. B. Yeats, and others, dating from 1879 to 1926.</p>"}
