{"value"=>"
Peter Basch (1921-2004) was a photographer born in Berlin, Germany, and later based in New York City. His family moved to New York in 1933, recognizing the rising anti-Semitic sentiments and laws in Germany. The family relocated to California, where Basch assisted the Hollywood photographer Laszlo Willinger. Basch then attended high school in England until returning to the United States to join the army. Basch served in the United States Army Air Forces' First Motion Picture Unit as a script boy.

Upon returning to New York City, Basch's parents decided he should be a photographer and obtained a photography studio for Basch to work. Basch spent the rest of the 1950s and 1960s establishing his career as a magazine photographer, creating images for actors, dancers, and celebrities. His work appeared in magazines such as Dance Magazine, Life, Look, and Playboy. Basch published a book of his work titled Stars! in 2003, the year before his death.
"}
