He worked as an editor at <span class=\"title\">Dance Observer</span> before founding the Brooklyn Museum Dance Center in 1935. Code managed the Dance Center, which hosted recitals and exhibitions, until its dissolution in 1938. Code was also an actor, teacher, and worked in public relations. He died in New York City in 1974.</p>"}

McGilvery acquired the materials while cleaning out a storage unit, and sent the collection to the Museum since the materials were labeled with the institution's name. {"value"=>"<p>The collection dates from 1912 to 1938, and contains approximately 500 acetate negatives compiled by Grant Hyde Code during his tenure at the Brooklyn Museum Dance Center. Many of the negatives are dance publicity stills depicting performances in New York City. The negatives are arranged alphabetically by name or title. Some of the dancers pictured include Lew Christensen, Alexandra Danilova, William Dollar, Martha Graham, Hanya Holm, Doris Humphrey, Eleanor King, Harold Kreutzburg, Annabelle Lyon, Sophie Maslow, Anna Pavlova, Elise Reiman, Ted Shawn, Daphne Vane, Heidi Vosseler, Charles Weidman, Helga Weigert, and Mary Wigman. Some of the companies represented include American Ballet Company, Ballet Caravan, Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, and Dora Menzler Dance Group. The negatives are all numbered and housed in sleeves that include detailed information about each image. There are also ten glass plate negatives and fourteen prints depicting Alexandra Danilova, Anna Pavlova, Ted Shawn, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, and Mary Wigman. Additionally, there is group of dance negatives from <span class=\"title\">National Geographic Magazine</span> which are arranged chronologically.</p>"}
