{"value"=>"<p>Dixie Sheridan (née Massad, 1943- ) is an acclaimed photographer for Off-Broadway and Off Off-Broadway productions. A native of Oklahoma, Sheridan received her bachelor's degree in drama from Vassar College in 1965, and her master's degree in drama history from the University of Oklahoma, in 1969. From 1975 to 1977, Sheridan worked for the <span class=\"title\">Southern Dutchess News</span> as a photographer, editor, and reporter.</p> <p>In 1977, Sheridan was hired by her alma mater, Vassar College, to become editor of the <span class=\"title\">Vassar Quarterly</span> and stayed for 27 years in a variety of jobs, ending as vice president for college relations. During her tenure as an administrator, Sheridan was a founder, executive producer, and photographer for the Powerhouse Summer Theater Program. From 1984 to 2005, Sheridan photographed the Powerhouse participants including established actors, aspiring actors, directors, playwrights, and others.</p> <p>In 1997, Sheridan left Vassar to pursue a career as a free-lance photographer for Off-Broadway, and Off Off-Broadway theatre. She was the production photographer for the Axis Theatre Company, the Classic Stage Company, Epic Theatre, The Flea, Hotel Savant, MCC Theatre, and The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC). Sheridan's extensive work includes other independent companies and individual portraits of writers and artists.</p> <p>Sheridan's photographs are widely published and have been exhibited in one-woman shows.</p> <p>Sheridan currently resides in New York City.</p>"}

Many of the images are slides, with photographs and contact prints to a lesser extent.</p> <p>Other files include printed matter, correspondence, legal and financial documents, posters, and media.</p> <p>The Off-Broadway and the Off Off-Broadway companies represented are primarily the Axis Theatre Company, Classic Stage Company, and the festival FringeNYC. Other independent companies represented include Jean Cocteau Repertory, and Rude Mechanicals. Related material includes financial, notes, and programs.</p> <p>The Directors and Playwrights material holds files for productions by Beth Henley (see: Powerhouse Summer Theater Program), Kate Moira Ryan, Erica Schmidt, and Kay Turner. Files include portrait sessions of Ryan, her production <span class=\"title\">Hadley's Mistake</span>, and Shakespeare's<span class=\"title\"> As You Like It</span> directed by Erica Schmidt.</p> <p>The Portraits files reflect an eclectic group of subjects such as The Clarion Music Society; Margaret Edson's play <span class=\"title\">Wit</span> starring Kathleen Chalfant; William Finn's <span class=\"title\">Songbook</span>, and cover art for the book entitled <span class=\"title\">The Room Lit by Roses</span> by Carole Maso.</p> <p>The Powerhouse Summer Theater Program at Vassar College files spans the first productions in Vassar's theater building (officially the Hallie Flanagan Davis Powerhouse Theater) to the 2000s. There are images from the productions; behind-the-scene rehearsals; and of noted actors, students, and other individuals in the performing arts. Sheridan also retained programs, publicity materials, and printed matter.</p> <p>Sheridan's files of her one-woman exhibitions include shows at Pulse Art in Manhattan, the College Center Gallery, and the Beech Tree Gallery (both in Poughkeepsie).</p> <p>The collection holds larger prints of some of Sheridan's work. These prints were categorized as exhibition quality, professional (for potential clients), and not selected prints.</p> <p>The collection also holds biographical data and clippings.</p>"}
