An essay discussing the cultural and historical context of the play written by revival director Scott Miller is also included."}

{"value"=>"<p><span class=\"title\">The Nervous Set</span>, a jazz musical, was first staged at the Crystal Palace in St. Louis in March 1959. It opened at Henry Miller's Theater on Broadway two months later, produced by Robert Lantz and starring Tom Aldredge and Larry Hagman. With a script written by Jay Landesman and Theodore J. Flicker, <span class=\"title\">The Nervous Set</span> was loosely based on the unpublished autobiography of Landesman, which drew heavily upon his friendships with Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and others. It was the first musical to depict the Beat Generation. Landesman's wife Fran Landesman wrote song lyrics and Tommy Wolf wrote the music, which included <span class=\"title\">The Ballad of the Sad Young Men</span> and <span class=\"title\">Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most</span>. In 2004, Scott Miller directed a revival staged at New Line Theatre in St. Louis.</p>"}
