These three letters were written in 1849 by Hewitt to industrialist Peter Cooper, while Hewitt was in Philadelphia; Bordentown, New Jersey; and Sandusky, Ohio. In these brief communications, Hewitt mentions coal and nail supplies (presumably for their Trenton Iron Company) and refers to the lack of cholera in Sandusky during the 1849 cholera epidemic."}
