Peter Gansevoort was besieged by British troops under Col. Barry St. Leger on their way to join Gen. John Burgoyne at Albany. The siege was lifted 21 days later by the arrival of Continental troops under Gen. Benedict Arnold. The journal has been attributed to Lt.
