{"value"=>"
The Lewis Brown costume designs document his work with various regional theaters and television productions throughout the country. Most designs are watercolor or pastel originals. There are some rough pencil sketches. Most drawings are signed, dated, and annotated. A few drawings have sketches on the cardboard backing and some include cloth swatches. Many files only hold one or two designs from an individual show, but there are some full sets of designs including the 1965 production of Caucasian Chalk Circle and the 1961 production of Richard II. The production date and theater company are listed when known.

Correspondence is with Sir Tyrone Guthrie, founder of the Guthrie Theater and concerns Brown's designs for Henry V (1964), Richard III (1965), and Harper's Ferry (1965).
"}
