Scope and arrangement
The collection dates from 1984 to 1987 and holds press releases and production notes for approximately 150 American films and television shows. Production notes contain full cast and credit lists, plot synopses, biographical information on the cast and technical crew, and shooting times and locations. Press releases document the announcements of films and television series and the release of home videos. Some production notes and press releases were distributed to Celebrity Services during the early stages of pre-production with requests to withhold information until a set solicitation date was provided. In addition to press releases for individual productions are programming schedules and coming attractions releases from film studios and television networks.
The collection is arranged by the production/distribution studio, entertainment company, or television network that created the press material. Among them are Twentieth Century Fox Corporation, Columbia Pictures, CBS Entertainment, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), New World Pictures, HBO, Cinemax, and The Cannon Group, Inc. Among the many motion picture titles represented in this collection are Revenge of the Nerds II, Three for the Road, Outrageous Fortune, Prizzi's Honor, Raw Deal, Hearts of Fire, Gardens of Stone, The Color Purple, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, The Last Innocent Man, Platoon, Aliens, Adventures in Babysitting, The Stepfather, and Weird Science. Fewer television shows than films are documented; among them are The Oprah Winfrey Show and the PBS series American Playhouse and Alive From Off Center.
Correspondence is limited and relates to mailing press releases and receiving press materials. Correspondence is generally attached to material for the production to which it refers. The primary correspondent is Bill Murray, editor of the Celebrity Services Bulletin.
