Regina Kellerman (1923-2009) was an architectural historian who served as an early director of research for the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission, and later become the founder and first director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation. Her pioneering research, both in New York and the Netherlands, led to her correctly identifying the location of New York City's first City Hall, a conclusion borne out by the subsequent excavation of the site during the early 1970s. The collection covers Kellerman's career as an architectural historian and preservationist and includes correspondence, reports and notes, architectural drawings and plans, and photographs and slides which she generated and gathered in the course of her investigation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods located in New York City and the surrounding area.

Collection contains correspondence, diaries, art work, writings, family papers, photographs, memorabilia of Hughes and her family, and printed matter. Family correspondence, 1861-1963, consists of letters among family members. General correspondence, 1902-1936, contains letters to Hughes and to her father, Roy V. Hughes (also an artist), from friends and includes many love letters. Complementing the correspondence are Eugenia Hughes's diaries, 1921-1964; a 1900 diary of her mother, Josephine Gosline; a 1950 diary of Roy Hughes; sketches and watercolor studies by Roy and Eugenia Hughes; exhibition catalogs; Eugenia Hughes's notes and writings; family papers; photographs of family and friends; personal memorabilia; ephemera; and clippings.

Bertha Mohr was the daughter of Robert Moritz Mohr, a pipe organ maker whose family lived in Greenwich Village, New York City. The Bertha Mohr diary records her domestic and social activities of 1892, including household chores, entertainments and educational events, and visits made and received. Among the events Mohr recorded was New York City's commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' arrival in America. The diary entries are short, most consisting of no more than four or five brief sentences. The diary also holds a few small clippings.

He was administrator of the estate of William Temple Franklin (1760-1823), the grandson of Benjamin Franklin. Collection consists of correspondence, legal papers, and financial documents of Vanderpoel and his father-in-law, attorney James McBride. Vanderpoel's papers pertain to his legal practice, judgeship and personal life. Bulk of his legal papers concerns his administration of the William Temple Franklin estate, 1770-1834. James McBride papers reflect his legal and real estate activities including his work on behalf of clients living in Ireland who had legal or real estate interests in New York City. After practicing law in New York, he was a member of the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1776 and also a brigadier general in the New Jersey militia. He served as governor of New Jersey from 1776 to 1790 and in 1787 was a delegate to the Federal Constitutional Convention. Collection consists of correspondence and other papers of Livingston. Correspondence, 1775-1782, includes incoming letters and documents from constituents, colleagues, and political and social figures; Livingston's letters to the New Jersey Gazette on events of the American Revolution; and letterbooks kept by Livingston as governor of New Jersey containing drafts of official letters, family letters, messages to the New Jersey Assembly, and narrative of the war by Jonathan Trumbull. Also, cost books of cases, 1749-1772, in which Livingston acted as counsel before the Supreme Court of New York.

Joseph A. Sonnabend is a physician, laboratory scientist, clinical researcher, and community activist who contributed immeasurably to the fight against AIDS. As a pioneer in community-based research, he co-founded the AIDS Medical Foundation (later to become the American Foundation for AIDS Research, or amfAR) and the Community Research Initiative/Community Research Initiative on AIDS, as well as the PWA Health Group. In addition to creating community organizations, Dr. Sonnabend treated patients and conducted research into AIDS for the first twenty-three years of the epidemic in New York City, and helped create the first safe-sex guidelines. The Joseph A. Sonnabend Papers contain interviews, lectures, and press clippings; correspondence; published and near-print materials; legal case files and depositions; organizational records, clinical trial records, and grant applications and research proposals; scientific research, article drafts, charts, graphs, and notes; conference materials; and ephemera. The materials in this collection date from 1963 through 2004.

The Vincent Astor Foundation was established in New York City in 1948 by Vincent Astor for the purpose of "alleviating human misery." Mrs. Brooke Russell Astor, widow of Vincent Astor, served as president of the foundation from 1960 until its dissolution in 1997. The collection consists chiefly of records of financial grants awarded to charitable and non-profit organizations, mainly in New York City. Grants were awarded to libraries, museums, schools, universities, settlement houses, and various civic and community improvement groups. The records reflect Mrs. Astor's personal participation in the awarding of the foundation's grants. Included also are personal papers of Mrs. Astor relating to her civic and philanthropic activities. Among these papers are correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, and videotapes recording her appearances on network television shows.

The Charles Boultenhouse and Parker Tyler Papers (1927-1994) consist of correspondence; published and unpublished manuscripts and typescripts of each man's writings; photographs; personal files and mementos; subject files; films; sound recordings; art work; and printed material including books, periodicals, catalogs, and brochures. The papers document the men's relationship of almost 30 years; their involvement in and contribution to the arts; their social life with friends and colleagues; and, to some extent, the activities of the artistic communities with which they were involved. The bulk of the papers cover the period from 1945 on, after the men met and began living together, and so are in a sense the papers of their household as well as those of each man individually.

Dorothee Gore was a lesbian who lived in New York City in the 1930s and became a member of the Women s Army Corp (WAC) during World War II. The collection includes personal letters and notes, scrapbooks, photographs, and memorabilia documenting her personal life and her life in the women's military in World War II. Many of the women she corresponded with during World War II were also in the military, and their letters detail camp life and women's general reactions to the service. Some letters also subtly refer to the investigation of lesbians in the military that took place at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia in 1944. Her time in the military is also documented through photographs, an autograph book, her patches, and her discharge papers. Her papers also include documentation of her personal interest in Hollywood stars such as Greta Garbo, travel ephemera, religious ephemera, cocktail napkins, newspaper clippings, and animal stories.

Craig Rodwell (1940-1993) was an American gay rights activist. He was active in the Mattachine Society in New York City and in 1967 founded the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop, the first bookstore devoted to serious writing by gay authors. A participant in the Stonewall riots in 1969, Rodwell figured prominently in the gay liberation movement of the 1970s and 1980s. Collection consists of correspondence, photographs, printed matter, artifacts, and other items documenting Rodwell's work as an activist and proprietor of the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop. Correspondence is mainly incoming letters from friends and colleagues, and writings, ca. early 1970s, are on gay-related topics. Rodwell's files contain clippings, flyers, correspondence and other materials all pertaining to aspects of gay and lesbian politics and culture. Other papers include printed matter, Martin Duberman's interview with Rodwell, and materials from Rodwell's childhood and youth. Also, photographs and slides; artifacts such as political buttons, banner, T-shirts, and puzzle; and two sound recordings. (Sixteen commercial sound recordings were transferred to the International Gay Information Center Archives.).
