The Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Northeast Regional Conference Collection includes programs and brochures for events sponsored by the regional conference and the national organization, 1980-1983, 1990s; a newsletter of the Boulé A'Rama; minutes and an update for the 39th annual Northeast Regional Conference, 1981; financial reports, 1973-1974, and 1982; and a workbook for an alumni workshop, 1982.
Biographical/historical information
The Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was founded in 1922, the first sorority of black women on a predominantly white campus, Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Northeast Conference was organized in 1939 in New York City and incorporates chapters in several countries in addition to other states.
Projects encompass providing African women with agricultural assistance, and in the United States, programs include prenatal health education, undergraduate drugs, alcohol and abuse awareness, and a financial seminar designed for young people.
