The author came from Ireland and settled in Pittsburg where his wife Maria died and was buried. His brother Albert came later from Ireland, settled in Pittsburg, then in Kentucky, bringing subsequently a wife and two children. The volume is taken principally with an autobiographical and local historical poem called forth by his experiences and bereavements in the New World. The compositions are dated, some as late as 1828.
