The Beeks family papers consist mainly of personal correspondence. Also included are manuscripts, a commonplace book, a few photographs, and other personal miscellany. The bulk of the material dates between 1899-1928, and includes a letterpress copybook documenting the law practice of James Beeks between 1899-1901; correspondence written to his wife, Sarah Jane Brackinridge Beeks during his business trip to Cuba in 1902; and the correspondence of his eldest son, Edward Beeks, while living in Shanghai from 1911-1928. Other correspondents include Beeks' children McCary W. Beeks, Gertrude Beeks Easley, Helen Beeks Lounsbury, and various members of the extended family
