Scope and arrangement
The collection consists of documents concerning property in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut belonging to the descendants of Hendrick Pearss and his wife Tanneke Bockee, and Johannes Poel and his wife Sarah, all of New York City. The documents include wills, land transfers, deeds, slave receipts, property lists, and mortgages. Much of the material concerns Tanneke Turk, born ca. 1769, and her husband Ahasuerus. Tanneke was widowed early and managed her own property. Many of the land transfers and mortgages are in her name.
