L'ordre du Lion was a masonic brotherhood founded by French prisoners of war at the English parole town of Odiham during the Napoleonic wars. Established in 1808, their prinicpal aim was the destruction of England. Manuscript notebook made by an unidentified member of L'ordre du Lion, probably shortly after its founding. Contains a précis of the aims of the Order ("L'ordre du Lion a pour but la destruction de la puissance Anglaise . . ."); its statutes, in 14 articles; its projected command structure in France, based on regions given astrological code names and colors; a list of officers serving under Grand Master Édouard-François Simons; a ceremonial catechism; and a series of codes, passwords, symbols and ciphers for secret communications.
