The commodore mentioned in the title is John "Foul-weather Jack" Byron, grandfather of George Gordon Byron. · To "dear Madam" : 1 autograph letter signed : [1772] : (MISC 0976) : begins, "When your brother peeped from his Dormitory ... he was so kind to promise that he would take a letter of mine ... to the post house ..."; mentions having spent a day or two with Lady Mary Scott of Blendon Hall, and plans to meet Henry Hervey, the fourth son of the Earl of Bristol.
