Roundell Palmer, first Earl of Selborne, English lawyer and politician; he served as British Lord Chancellor from 1872-1874 and from 1880-1885. · To John Claremont Whiteman, a director of the East India Company : 1 autograph letter signed : 3 Jul 1848 : (P'ANA 0056) : 2 ¹/₂ pages (double sheet) : from Lincoln's Inn : begins, "I wish I had leisure to search for authorities on the classical question to which the paper I return you, relates: -- Mr. Peacock has the advanatage of me in this respect: but his instances do not seem to me at all in point ..."
