The Chamberlain and Lyman Brown Papers are 351 linear feet and contain business and personal correspondence, scrapbooks, autographs, legal and financial papers, scripts, photographs, clipping files, and production materials documenting their work as theatrical agents, managers, and producers. The papers provide a history of the entertainment industry from the end of the 19th century through the middle of the 20th century. A number of family and personal papers are also included. less

Louis D. Carman (1860-1936) was a medical examiner in the United States Bureau of Pensions and a collector of Lincolniana. His father, Ezra Ayer Carman, was a Civil War officer. The Louis D. Carman collection dates from 1828 to 1923 and consists of items accumulated by Louis D. Carman, specifically correspondence and autographs; a friendship album containing poetry; and handwritten excerpts transcribed from books about fishing. A variety of documents bear the signatures of politicians and federal government officials; military generals; and businessmen. Simon Gratz (1840-1925) was an American lawyer and philanthropist of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Simon Gratz collection of letters of prominent American physicians and surgeons comprises sixty autograph items, chiefly letters. Each name is represented by one item; an additional autograph item written by Samuel Bard is not found. Prominent letter writers include Jacob Bigelow, Silvester Gardiner, David Hosack, and Samuel L. Mitchill. Recipients are chiefly persons in the medical field, but clergymen, scientists and other professions are also represented. Among them are James H. T. Romeyn (Theodric Romeyn) Beck of Albany, New York was an American physician, educator and author. The Theodric Romeyn Beck autograph collection, 1808-1855 and undated, consists of 19th-century autograph documents, most pasted on sheets from a disbound volume, comprising letter covers and envelopes, clipped book inscriptions and signatures, and signed calling cards. Many items are addressed to Beck in his professional capacities. The autographs are chiefly those of American and European men in the fields of medicine and science, such as New York physician Willard Parker, but politicians and other notable persons are represented, including Edward Everett, Daniel O'Connell, and Sir Robert Peel. There are calling cards signed by astronomer Maria Mitchell and her sister Annie Mitchell; a clipped signature is identified as that of Margaret Miller Davidson. The collection contains 102 single autographs arranged alphabetically by surname, followed by 5 sheets containing multiple autographs.
