The Roe family papers consist of genealogical notes and charts, 1882 through 1958, on the Roe family by various genealogists including Clarence Almon Torrey, Charles Harvey Roe, Robert C. Vial, Catherine T.R. Matthews, and Alfred S. Roe. Also present is a manuscript of Clarence Almon Torrey and Charles Harvey Roe's second edition of "David Roe of Flushing, NY. and some of his descendants;" a scrapbook of Alfred S. Roe, 1882-1906, containing correspondence and clippings pertaining to the Roe family; and an album of cartes-de-visite and tintype portrait photographs, ca. 1860s-1900, of identified members of the Roe family of Buchanan, Michigan. less

Standish Backus (1875-1943) was a corporate lawyer and president of the Burroughs Adding Machine Company from 1920 to 1943. The collection is composed of correspondence concerning his genealogical research on the Standish, Backus, and related families as well as the data and family documents he assembled including letters, deeds, printed ephemera, photograph albums, ancestral charts, and family crests. Two portrait albums, of the Harvard College Class of 1855 and of the Class of 1856. The Class of 1855 album belonged to George Foster Hodges. Both albums contain formal portrait photographs of selected students, faculty members, and views of the Harvard campus. Many pages include the autograph of the sitter, and most of these signatures date to the 1830s Harvard class albums of this era were not mass-produced, but instead contained their owner's selection of photographs. Katharine Tomkins Villard (1904-2000) was a member of the socially prominent Tomkins and Villard families of New York City. The collection consists chiefly of family photograph albums, documenting her life from childhood through the early years of her marriage to Vincent S. Villard in 1928. Also included in the collection are a childhood scrapbook, and a scrapbook of solicitations from bridal businesses sent to her sister-in-law Mariquita after her engagement was announced in the newspapers in 1928. less

Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger (1892-1990) helped shape the history of the New York Times throughout a long and active life. Sulzberger nurtured and bridged the generations of the family that controlled The Times since 1896, when her father, Adolph S. Ochs, acquired it. She played important roles in selecting the succeeding publishers: her husband, Arthur Hays Sulzberger; her son-in-law, Orvil E. Dryfoos, and her son, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger. Iphigene also served the newspaper as director and trustee for the stock left to her by her father. The papers of poet and teacher Genevieve Taggard include correspondence, drafts of poetry and prose (most notably for her 1930 book The Life and Mind of Emily Dickinson), photographs, notebooks, teaching materials, memorabilia, and other personal and professional materials. Wolf, her daughter, Marcia Durant Liles, and her parents and siblings. Sarah Yardley Beers (1876-1946) was the great-niece of abolitionist James Miller McKim (1810-1874) and his wife Sarah A. McKim (1813-1891). Born in North Carolina, Sarah McKim Yardley was the daughter of Ellen Mulvany (1843-1924) of Millersville, Pennsylvania and William Buckman Yardley (1848-1885) of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Her mother married Edwin Ruthven Armstrong in 1886. In 1904 Sarah McKim Yardley married businessman Louis Gilbert Beers (1862-1935). Sarah Yardley Beers, as she was known, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an officer of the Broad Seal Chapter of Trenton, New Jersey. The Sarah Yardley Beers family papers, 1807-1983, comprise her genealogical correspondence and research papers relating to her maternal ancestry, particularly the McKim, Miller and Mulvany families of Pennsylvania; her mother's school autograph album and photograph album; family photographs and certificates; clippings and ephemera; and a Bible containing Miller family data and her parents' wedding certificate. Also present is a small amount of genealogical correspondence of her son Yardley Beers, 1965 and 1983; an engraved portrait of Lucy McKim Garrison by Gustav Kruell, circa 1890s; and printed materials. less
