Benjamin J. Falk (1853-1925) was an American photographer active in New York City during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Collection consists of Falk's record books and autograph album. Record books, 1881-1917, contain information about his portrait studio clients. Many were prominent New Yorkers, including theatrical persons and members of the German-Jewish community. Autograph album contains inscriptions dating from 1895-1897 and 1914-1915. less

He worked as a consultant for the Du Pont Company from 1897 to 1927 and wrote books on explosives and literary and political matters. Collection consists of correspondence; typescripts of speeches, books and articles; patent materials; legal documents; family papers; photographs; and printed matter. Papers document Maxim's career as an inventor and explosives expert; experiments with soybeans and other foods; anti-Prohibition activities; involvement with Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, local affairs; and family and personal life. Bulk of correspondence dates from last few years of Maxim's life, 1925-1927, and concerns his personal and professional activities. Also, speeches delivered by Maxim, 1907-1927; notes, reports, correspondence, blueprint maps, and charts relating to explosion sites and damage; legal documents, ca. 1911-1925; correspondence with canning companies, seed merchants, and state and federal agriculture departments, 1917-1918, concerning his experiments with the preparation and canning of various foods, particularly soybeans; drafts of an autobiography and other writings, ca. 1880s-1920s; and anti-Prohibition speeches, articles and letters to newspaper editors, with related clippings and printed materials, 1920s. Baron Edward de Lebzeltern-Collenbach was a member of the aristocratic Lebzeltern family of the Austrian Empire. His father, Francis, and uncle Louis were associates of Prince Metternich. Edward entered the diplomatic service in 1835 in London and then was transferred in 1844 to the Austrian legation in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was assigned to the Italian states of Parma and Modena in 1854 and then went to Lisbon in 1857. His daughter Marie married into the Portuguese aristocracy and his son Victor settled in the U.S. Collection contains correspondence, biographical essay, autograph album, and printed matter by and about members of the Lebzeltern family. Bulk of the correspondence consists of letters, 1834-1863, written by Edward to his father, providing an almost daily account of his activities while he was in London, St. Petersburg, Lisbon, and other European cities. Other correspondence, 1844-1925, includes letters written by various members of Edward's family. Also, essay on the life of Jacques Casanova, autograph album, death notices, and eulogies. less

W.J. Bumbala was a radio engineer for an electrical equipment company in Phoenix, Arizona. During World War I he was interned in the U.S. as a German enemy alien. Autograph album which Bumbala kept during his internment at Fort Douglas, Utah contains entries made by his fellow prisoners. Included are poems, photographs, drawings, post cards, and commentary on internment in World War I. less

Louis D. Carman (1860-1936) was a medical examiner in the United States Bureau of Pensions and a collector of Lincolniana. His father, Ezra Ayer Carman, was a Civil War officer. The Louis D. Carman collection dates from 1828 to 1923 and consists of items accumulated by Louis D. Carman, specifically correspondence and autographs; a friendship album containing poetry; and handwritten excerpts transcribed from books about fishing. A variety of documents bear the signatures of politicians and federal government officials; military generals; and businessmen. Sarah Yardley Beers (1876-1946) was the great-niece of abolitionist James Miller McKim (1810-1874) and his wife Sarah A. McKim (1813-1891). Born in North Carolina, Sarah McKim Yardley was the daughter of Ellen Mulvany (1843-1924) of Millersville, Pennsylvania and William Buckman Yardley (1848-1885) of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Her mother married Edwin Ruthven Armstrong in 1886. In 1904 Sarah McKim Yardley married businessman Louis Gilbert Beers (1862-1935). Sarah Yardley Beers, as she was known, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an officer of the Broad Seal Chapter of Trenton, New Jersey. The Sarah Yardley Beers family papers, 1807-1983, comprise her genealogical correspondence and research papers relating to her maternal ancestry, particularly the McKim, Miller and Mulvany families of Pennsylvania; her mother's school autograph album and photograph album; family photographs and certificates; clippings and ephemera; and a Bible containing Miller family data and her parents' wedding certificate. Also present is a small amount of genealogical correspondence of her son Yardley Beers, 1965 and 1983; an engraved portrait of Lucy McKim Garrison by Gustav Kruell, circa 1890s; and printed materials. less
