The Julia Sanderson papers consist of correspondence, ephemera and scrapbooks of clippings and photographs documenting the careers of Julia Sanderson and her husband, Frank Crumit. The papers span the years 1913-1935 and contain materials primarily from the theatrical careers. No material is included for their years in radio. less

Annie Hart was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts circa 1860. A star of both vaudeville and Tony Pastor's Theater, she spent most of her life in the entertainment field. She first appeared in THE BLACK CROOK at Niblo's Gardens. She toured both in the United States and the British Isles.Among the productions in which she appeared was the 1928 production of Jerome Kern's SHOW BOAT. After she retired from the theater she resided in New Jersey with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Marsh, also of the entertainment world. She died in Fair Haven, New Jersey in 1947. The Annie Hart Papers and Scrapbook contain photographs and clippings of family and friends in the 1920's and 1930's. Many photographs in the scrapbook are of Annie Hart, Helen Morgan, Howard Marsh and his wife, Marian Marsh. Correspondence is from notables of vaudeville and musical theater of the early 20th century. less

Correspondence consists of requests for work or placement in a particular show, either at the New York Hippodrome or another of the theaters with which Burnside was affiliated, as well as correspondence referring to the logistics of productions, publicity and financial arrangements, club memberships, and professional organizations such as ASCAP. Other correspondence refers to his endeavors in the film industry, as a director with Paramount in New York City, 1923-1925, and in Hollywood, 1935-1938. Correspondence also concerns the Philadelphia Sesquicentennial Celebration of 1926. Financial papers consist of theater accounts, box office and royalty statements, and securities and insurance records. Production notes include cast lists, property lists, program outlines, stage directions, reports, scripts, synopses, and light plots. Publicity photographs are accompanied by letters seeking auditions or parts in Burnside productions. Printed matter includes sheet music, promotional materials, newsclippings of reviews, and articles referring to Burnside, performers, shows, and productions he staged. less

The Otto Harbach Papers include correspondence, business papers, scripts, scores, lyrics, personal papers, photographs, and printed matter documenting his personal life and career, and also a particular period in the American musical theater, from ca. 1908-1938, when Harbach created most of his works. Correspondence is mainly between Harbach and his family in Salt Lake City, and later with his son William. Family members include his brothers, Arthur, James, Julius, and William Hauerbach, and his sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Avern Poulton. Included in the small amount of correspondence from friends and colleagues are several interesting letters from Arthur Hammerstein, Oscar Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, and Carl Sandburg. The collection is particularly strong in covering the business aspects of Harbach's work, documented with contracts, copyright, and royalty information. Scripts form the largest series and include copies of most of Harbach's works. The scores are mostly for HAYFOOT-STRAWFOOT (music by Jerome Kern) and COUNTER MELODY (music by Peter De Rose) and are notable for the holographs that make up part of the scores for HAYFOOT-STRAWFOOT. There is also a good collection of photographs, including family, colleagues, ASCAP events, friends, and a selection of production photos. Personal papers include genealogical information, writings other than scripts, ephemera and a long oral history interview conducted by William Harbach shortly before his father's death. less

These additions to the Otto Harbach papers, dating from 1923 to 1979, are comprised of an oral history, writings, scores, scripts, lyrics, photographs, a scrapbook, home movies, and other sound and moving image recordings. less

Robert Baral was a free-lance writer and sometime publicist. The collection consists of photographs, clippings, programs, and correspondence relating to Ziegfeld, the Ziegfeld Follies, and the revue era. With its roots in the late nineteenth century Europe, the revue has been defined as a form of light entertainment that consisted of topical sketches, comedy, music and dance, which was loosely held together by a theme. In America, the revue evolved full of spectacular effects under the inspired direction of Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr., who was often imitated but never surpassed. less

The Railroad hour was a program which presented excerpts of famous musical comedies, as well as original stories, for radio audiences. Each half-hour episode of the program presented the highlights of one musical. Gordon MacRae was the host and leading man for each episode; his leading ladies came from radio and the Metropolitan Opera. less

The Leo Reisman collection contains primarily private acetate disc recordings of Reisman's radio performances of the 1930's, as well as Reisman's personal collection of commercial 78 rpm discs. Included among the noncommercial recordings are extensive holdings of his Philip Morris Show and Schaefer's nine o'clock revue appearances. Less complete holdings for Lucky Strike's your hit parade are also included. The commercial disc collection is comprised mostly of Reisman's commercially released recordings, as well as a small number of other artists' recordings. All commercial discs have been assimilated into the general holdings of the archive, and can be located in the NYPL catalog. less

These noncommercial acetate disc recordings were collected by Schillinger, and in many instances recorded by him as well. Works by Schillinger in the collection include many of his piano compositions and improvisations.
