The collection includes some memorabilia of Artur Bodanzky: 2 batons, portrait drawings by Emil Orlik and Albert Sterner, a tiny photograph of Bodanzky swimming with the child Linda Muschenheim, 2 commemorative items including a poem by Brenda Putnam illustrated with photographs of sculptures of Bodanzky conducting, and 1 drawing inscribed to the Bodanzkys by Hendrik Willem Van Loon. The bulk of the collection consists of portrait photographs of musicians inscribed to one or both of the Muschenheims. Some of these are also postcards with handwritten messages. Musicians represented include: Adolf Busch, Kirsten Flagstad, Sigrid Onégin, Arturo Toscanini, and others. Other correspondence consists of 4 postcards with views, 1 letter and 1 telegram. There are also several clippings and a list of donors in "Mrs. Muschenheim's group" to the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York.

The collection contains portraits in photographs, drawings and reproductions of drawings of individuals involved in the entertainment arts. The portraits were created by G. Maillard Kesslère from 1925 through 1952, with the bulk of them amassed from 1925 to about 1946. The subjects include actors, dancers, singers, musicians, composers, conductors, critics, writers, directors, producers, and designers for the theater, dance, ballet, opera, radio, and television. The largest group in the collection consists of approximately 858 portraits in half-length, bust, or head only formats, and includes 589 black and white photographs, approximately 30 original pastel or charcoal drawings, and some 239 black and white photomechanical reproductions of original drawings. Over 500 of the subjects in this group are identified. The collection also includes a series of black and white photos of male and female subjects who are largely unidentified, but who were likely active in society, business, or the performing arts. The collection also contains biographies of theatre and entertainment professionals, compiled from 1951-1952.

Peter Henri Van Der Weyde (1813-1895) was a Dutch-American industrial scientist and inventor. Collection consists of correspondence, writings, materials related to inventions, and miscellaneous family papers. Correspondence includes letters Van Der Weyde received when he was a researcher and teacher of industrial science; family correspondence including letters from his son, an officer in the Union Army, 1861-1864; and correspondence concerning a colony founded in 1880 by the Brooklyn Co-operative Colonization Association in Washington Territory. Other materials are contracts, patent petitions, and specifications for inventions; manuscripts and notebooks on applied science and theological and religious topics; and autobiography. Also, family records, financial papers, notes, photograph, and pamphlets describing Van Der Weyde's inventions.

Calvert Vaux (1824-1895) was a British-born landscape architect who practiced in the U.S. He worked on the designs for the grounds of the U.S. Capitol and the Smithsonian Institution. In 1857 he began collaborating with Frederick Law Olmsted on the construction of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Central, Morningside and Riverside Parks in Manhattan. They also worked on the South Park in Chicago and the state reservation at Niagara Falls, N.Y. Vaux was the landscape architect for the department of parks in New York City for many years. Collection consists of correspondence, documents, drawings, maps, plans, reports, speech, photograph, newsclippings, and other printed matter. Correspondence includes letters, 1860-1894, by Vaux relating to the design and construction of Central Park; letters, 1865-1895, to Vaux from Olmsted and others concerning Prospect and other parks, and Olmsted's life and work in California; letters to the editor of the New York Tribune about the roles of Vaux and Olmsted in the design of Prospect and Central Parks; and letters, 1921, between C. The Executive Committee, one of the original standing committees of the Board of Trustees, takes general charge of the administration of the affairs of the N.Y.P.L. Corporation. It is empowered to act on behalf of the Board of Trustees in between Board meetings. Records of the Executive Committee consist of handwritten, typewritten and printed documents as well as photographs and architectural drawings. Minutes are records of the meetings of the Executive Committee. To 1949 they are bound in volumes and early volumes include photographs of the Carnegie sites under construction. From 1967 the minutes are typewritten and loose. There are no minutes for the period 1950 to 1966. The Letterbooks consist of three volumes, 1902-1903, 1903-1906, and 1912-1928, of official letters written by the Executive Committee. Many of the letters are signed by John Shaw Billings or Edwin H. Anderson, who as Directors of the Library also served as Secretary to the Executive Committee. The bulk of Letters Received concern library construction and finances. The General Files are arranged alphabetically by subject. They relate to various Library matters but especially the construction of the Carnegie branch libraries and the Central Building, operations of the Circulation and Reference Departments, and finances. Central Building Files relate to the design, construction and maintenance of the Central Building, which were overseen primarily by the Executive Committee. Assorted Records include correspondence regarding the appointment of John Shaw Billings, as well as printed agreements between the City of New York and the Library regarding a pension plan for employees.

Bernard Flexner served as the company's first president and chairman of the board until 1944. The organization was subsequently known as PEC Israel Economic Corporation. Collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, reports, financial records, printed matter, maps, drawings, and photographs documenting activities of PEC and its subsidiaries. He has taught printing at the University of Alabama and Cornish College (Seattle) and is the author of the manual Printing on the Iron Handpress (1997), Nineteenth-Century Printing Practices and the Iron Handpress (2004), as well as numerous essays and lectures on the book arts. Papers consist chiefly of Halper's correspondence, 1919-1984, and literary work, 1928-1982. Correspondence is divided into four sections. Family correspondence, 1909-1969, contains letters to Halper from his four brothers and sister, his first wife, Pauline, and son, Thomas, as well as a few letters exchanged among other family members. Incoming letters, 1928-1984, contain all other letters written to Halper, while outgoing letters, 1919-1983, contain those written by Halper to family members and others. Both the incoming and outgoing letters are arranged chronologically by decade and consist mainly of correspondence with editors and literary agents regarding Halper's work. Although there are very few letters to Halper from prominent literary figures of the 1930s, his own letters to editors, fellow writers and friends reveal his opinions about his work, other writers, the Communist Party and political and literary issues of the period. In addition, there are letters from readers of Halper's memoir, Good-Bye, Union Square, and from researchers which discuss the radicalism of the period. Bulk of the correspondence dates from the 1950s-1980s, documenting Halper's struggles to get his work published and his plays Top Man and Aunt Daisy produced.

Constance Lindsay Skinner (1882-1939) was a Canadian-born author, critic, historian, and playwright. Her writings included poetry, novels, plays, literary and music criticism, historical works, and adventure stories for children. She wrote histories of the American southwest, Canadian northwest and Indian tribes of British Columbia. Collection contains correspondence, writings, photographs, movie stills, drawings, printed matter, and additional personal papers of Skinner and her parents. Correspondence, 1899-1939, is with authors, artists, editors, publishers, theatrical people, explorers, scholars, and journalists. Writings include typescripts of Skinner's short stories, articles, novels, poetry, children's stories, and criticism. Photographs are of family and friends, Indians of North America, and views of British Columbia and remote areas of the Canadian northwest. Also, drawings and illustrations, movie stills, clippings of criticism of her books and stories, and newsclippings relating to World War I. Other papers consist of her personal accounts, literary notebooks, cookbooks, address books, as well as letters and papers, 1876-1891, of her parents, Robert James Skinner and Annie Lindsay Skinner.

Jacob Snider (1811-1866), of Philadelphia, Pa., was an inventor of artillery, notably the Snider rifle which was used by the British Army. His son John Vaughan Snider was also an inventor. They were both involved in a lawsuit against the British government for compensation for the design of the Snider rifle. Collection consists of correspondence, documents, maps, drawings, photographs, and printed matter of Jacob and John Vaughan Snider. Jacob Snider papers contain correspondence, documents, and other items pertaining to land titles in Pennsylvania and Georgia, the delivery of rifles, and legal matters. John Vaughan Snider papers include legal documents, materials about patents for his inventions, photographs of rifles, and printed matter.

He worked as a consultant for the Du Pont Company from 1897 to 1927 and wrote books on explosives and literary and political matters. Collection consists of correspondence; typescripts of speeches, books and articles; patent materials; legal documents; family papers; photographs; and printed matter. Papers document Maxim's career as an inventor and explosives expert; experiments with soybeans and other foods; anti-Prohibition activities; involvement with Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, local affairs; and family and personal life. Bulk of correspondence dates from last few years of Maxim's life, 1925-1927, and concerns his personal and professional activities. Harold Gould Henderson (1889-1974) was an American author, teacher, translator, and anthologist of Japanese poetry. He taught the history of Japanese art at Columbia University, was president of the Society of Japanese Studies and the Japan Society from 1948 to 1952. In 1945 he served in Japan on General Douglas MacArthur's staff as special advisor on education, religion and art. His works included books and articles on Japanese poetry and grammar and his own Haiku poems. Collection consists of correspondence, writings, notes, and printed matter. Correspondence, 1960-1974, with poets, scholars, translators, and editors concerns Haiku poetry. Also, general correspondence of the 1930s, typescripts of writings, lecture notes on Japanese grammar, notes on Haiku, manuscript by K.C. Kondo on Japanese art, and papers relating to the Haiku Society of America.

Henry Kittredge Norton (1884-1965) was an American educator, journalist, author, and businessman. He was an advocate of aerial transit as a method of urban mass transportation. His positions included trustee and president of the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad, director of Walter Kidde & Co., and member of the New York City Transit Authority. Collection consists of correspondence, reports, designs and plans, and scrapbooks of photographs documenting Norton's efforts toward the adoption of monorails for San Francisco and New York City. Papers include correspondence, 1947-1954; published and unpublished reports, 1948-1955, relating mostly to mass transportation in the San Francisco Bay area; and designs, blueprints and drawings of monorails, as well as related patents.
