Frederick S. Dellenbaugh (1853-1935) was an explorer, artist and author. As the artist and assistant topographer on John Wesley Powell's second Colorado River expedition, 1871-1873, he helped to prepare the first map of the Grand Canyon. He was a cofounder and lifetime member of the Explorers Club, served on the board of directors for the Eastern Association on Indian Affairs, and was the American Geographical Society's librarian from 1909-1911. His papers include correspondence, a diary of the Powell expedition, manuscripts and drafts of his writings, research notes, sketches, photographs, newspaper clippings, and other printed matter.

Joseph Sabin compiled the Dictionary Catalogue of Books Relating to America, a bibliography of all books published in America or elsewhere pertaining to America. His son Joseph F. and grandson J. Percy continued the business of the firm and collected Americana and materials related to George Washington. Collection consists of correspondence, notes, financial records, and other papers that document the publishing and bookselling careers and personal lives of three generations of the Sabin family. The records of the Lavanburg Foundation contain meeting minutes and administrative files documenting the activities of the foundation, records of construction of the Lavanburg Villages, and files on grants awarded. Materials are organized in three series (Administrative Files, Lavanburg Villages Project, and Grants), and range in date from 1927 to 2011. The Fred L. Lavanburg Foundation was established in 1927 as a low-income, non-profit housing corporation for families with children who were unable to find housing elsewhere. The Lavanburg Homes were constructed in Manhattan in 1927, and in 1956, were donated to New York City. In the 1960s, the Lavanburg Foundation took on a second construction project, building the Lavanburg Villages in the Bronx. From 1927 to 2006, the Lavanburg Foundation also provided seed-money grants to organizations assisting in the foundation's mission of providing better housing and social support for low-income families. The Lavanburg Foundation closed in 2011.

A decade later he joined the New York firm of Wunderlich & Company; in the 1890s he became head of the firm and changed the name to Kennedy & Company. Collection consists of letters and sketches sent to Kennedy by James McNeill Whistler and others. Letters, postcards and telegrams from Whistler, 1887-1902, concern the artist's work and social life in London and Paris. Also included are several illustrative sketches in ink and pencil. Draughtman's sketches of lighting fixtures are done in pen and ink. Group schedule of designs, 1930-1949, are sketches of multiple lighting fixtures required for specific jobs. Design records, 1900-1941, contain information and sketches of lighting fixtures. Invoice books, 1943-1946, include descriptions of materials shipped with prices and information about customers. Also, records of material received, 1955-1956; ledgers, 1953-1956; shipment records, 1951-1954; employees' salary records, 1953-1956; index to customers; and records, 1947-1957, of the Plastic Illuminating Company (probably a subsidiary of the Caldwell Company) including order books, receipts and disbursements, and checkbooks. Leo Spier's letters, in German, to his mother, who was E.T. Caldwell's housekeeper, are restricted.

George Kennan (1845-1924), American journalist, lecturer, and author, is best-known for his writings on Russia. He traveled extensively in Siberia from 1865-1867 with a Western Union telegraph surveying party, and again in 1885-1886 to research the Imperial Russian exile and prison systems. His writings and lectures influenced American policy and public opinion about Russia before the 1917 revolutions. In addition to his work on Siberia, Kennan covered the Spanish-American War and the Russo-Japanese War for the
Outlook magazine. His papers include his correspondence and source documents collected from Russian exiles, a small amount of personal correspondence, drafts of manuscripts, a small number of photographs, and Kennan family papers.
