The collection documents the gay liberation movement in New York City and America from the 1950s to the 1980s. Included are records of the Gay Activists Alliance, the Gay Alliance of Brooklyn, Gay Switchboard of New York, the Mattachine Society Inc. of New York, and records of miscellaneous organizations including Christopher Street That New Magazine, Inc., and the periodicals Gaysweek, and New York Native. Personal papers include papers of Lockett Ford Ballard, Jr., Arthur Bell, Billy Wilder Blackwell, Perry Brass, Robert Clement, Don Jackson, Walter Porczak, and Sam Staggs. There are also miscellaneous records of IGIC, including correspondence, minutes, memoranda, photographs of gay rights demonstrations, scripts of plays by gay writers, and printed ephemera issued by gay, lesbian and AIDS organizations in the United States.

Mark Lowe Fisher was a member of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), an activist organization formed in 1987 in New York City. ACT UP utilizes mass demonstrations and acts of civil disobedience to focus public and governmental attention on crucial AIDS issues. Fisher died of AIDS-related causes in 1992. The collection consists primarily of material relating to ACT UP demonstrations attended by Fisher in Albany, New York City, Atlanta and Maine. "Target Bush" (1991) is the most thoroughly documented ACT UP demonstration in this collection. The collection also contains other documents by and about ACT UP, as well as broadsides and ephemera by ACT UP and other organizations. Fisher was arrested several times at demonstrations, and his arrest records are included in the collection. The remainder of the material consists of subject files and personal miscellany, such as Fisher's calendars, 1983-1991.

Joseph A. Sonnabend is a physician, laboratory scientist, clinical researcher, and community activist who contributed immeasurably to the fight against AIDS. As a pioneer in community-based research, he co-founded the AIDS Medical Foundation (later to become the American Foundation for AIDS Research, or amfAR) and the Community Research Initiative/Community Research Initiative on AIDS, as well as the PWA Health Group. In addition to creating community organizations, Dr. Sonnabend treated patients and conducted research into AIDS for the first twenty-three years of the epidemic in New York City, and helped create the first safe-sex guidelines. The Joseph A. Sonnabend Papers contain interviews, lectures, and press clippings; correspondence; published and near-print materials; legal case files and depositions; organizational records, clinical trial records, and grant applications and research proposals; scientific research, article drafts, charts, graphs, and notes; conference materials; and ephemera. The materials in this collection date from 1963 through 2004.

The Typophiles is a not-for-profit educational association that encourages the appreciation and production of fine typography and bookmaking through lectures, meetings, and the production of fine examples of the printing arts. The collection, dating from 1908 to 2011, consists of the papers of Dr. Robert L. Leslie and the records he generated as a member and officer of the Typophiles. Included are Dr. Leslie's personal and professional papers, as well as records from his businesses, The Composing Room, the Gallery 303, and the Heritage of the Graphic Arts lecture series. The records reflect the book arts during what may be considered the golden age of fine printing. Significant individuals represented in the collection include Frederick W. Marilla Waite Freeman was born in Honeoye Falls, New York, in 1870. After receiving a degree in literature from the University of Chicago in 1897, Freeman became a librarian. Her career included positions with the the Newberry Library, St. Joseph's Hosipital, and various public libraries, including those in Michigan City, Indiana; Davenport, Iowa; Newark, New Jersey; and Cleveland, Ohio. She also published numerous essays on literacy, poetry, and the importance of literature. She died in Yonkers, New York, in 1961. The papers consist largely of correspondence and ephemera relating to her support of the Academy of American Poets. Some personal correspondence with friends, family members, and authors is present, including several exchanges with Frieda Lawrence, wife of D.H. Lawrence, relating to books written about Lawrence, as well as a testimonial from the Commissioners of the Goodwyn Institute of Memphis presented to Freeman on the event of her departure from the institute

Henry Marcus Quackenbush (1847-1933) was an inventor and industrialist who developed and manufactured guns, nutcrackers, and nut picks, among other items. He founded H.M. Quackenbush Company in 1871. Quackenbush was a native of Herkimer, New York, where he was active in organizations such as the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), the Salvation Army, and the Anti-Saloon League. The Henry Marcus Quackenbush papers date from 1885 to 1992. The majority of the collection consists of correspondence, ephemera, and financial records dating from 1890 to 1933, documenting Quackenbush's involvement with charitable organizations, his family life, household management and expenses, and business operations and sales. Two ledgers contain Quackenbush's monthly financial statements from 1906 to 1922, and two sales books list figures of daily sales for 1893 to 1899 and 1915 to 1935. Materials dating after Quackenbush's death include a report on the Quackenbush company's tax liability; writings about Quackenbush and the guns he manufactured; letters from gun collectors to Bronson A.
