Anne Marx was a poet, lecturer and editor. She was vice-president of the Poetry Society of America in 1978 and regional president of the National League of American Pen Women in 1992. She died April 16, 2006. The collection contains correspondence with friends and organizations, Poetry Society of America records, material about lectures and workshops, drafts of her poems and material pertaining to the nine volumes of published poetry. Also included are audio tapes. Additions donated in 1994 contain material concerning her early years living in Germany, including correspondence, diaries, school material and poems. Also included are materials concerning her first years in the United States. Additions donated in 2006 following Marx's death provide further documentation of her activities as poet and lecturer and covers the years 1947 through 2004.

Annie Proulx is a novelist, short fiction writer, historian, and essayist. She was born in Norwich, Connecticut, in 1935, to Lois Nellie Gill Proulx, a painter and amateur naturalist, and George N. Proulx, the vice-president of a textile mill. Her first collection of short fiction, Heart Songs and Other Stories, was published in 1988. In 1990, she completed her debut novel, Postcards, for which she won the 1993 PEN / Faulkner Award for Fiction. Her second novel, The Shipping News, won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the Irish Times International Fiction Prize, and the Heartland Award for Fiction. Accordion Crimes, her third novel, was published in 1996. In 1997, she was awarded the Dos Passos Prize for Literature. In 1998, her story “Brokeback Mountain” won the National Magazine Award, The New Yorker Award for fiction, and the O. Henry Prize. It was adapted, in 2005, for a Paramount Pictures film by Larry McMurtry and Dianna Ossana, and was directed by Ang Lee. Her second collection of short fiction, Close Range: Wyoming Stories, was published in 1999; the lead story, “The Half-Skinned Steer,” was selected by John Updike for the Best American Stories of the Century (1999). In 2000, Proulx’s short story collection Close Range: Wyoming Stories won The New Yorker Award for fiction. Her fourth novel, That Old Ace in the Hole, was published in 2002. This was followed by two collections of short stories: Bad Dirt: Wyoming Stories 2 (2004) and Fine Just the Way It Is: Wyoming Stories 3 (2008). In 2008, she also published and edited Red Desert: A History of a Place, a collection of 38 essays of which she wrote 10. Bird Cloud: A Memoir, was published in 2011, and is named for the painstakingly designed and hand-crafted home she had built for herself in Wyoming, on a 640-acre nature preserve through which runs the North Platte River. Jack Gilford was a veteran vaudeville and revue comedian who played comic character roles in many stage and TV productions as well as in a number of films. Madeline Gilford was a film and stage actress and social activist, who later started a career as a producer, working with her husband Jack on many projects. Their production files, which make up the bulk of the collection, contain scripts, notes, photographs, and in the case of producing files, financial and backers materials. Other material includes scrapbooks, headshots, correspondence, Madeline Gilford's committee files, and sheet music and other material that Jack used in his vaudeville and solo acts.

The records of the Lavanburg Foundation contain meeting minutes and administrative files documenting the activities of the foundation, records of construction of the Lavanburg Villages, and files on grants awarded. Materials are organized in three series (Administrative Files, Lavanburg Villages Project, and Grants), and range in date from 1927 to 2011. The Fred L. Lavanburg Foundation was established in 1927 as a low-income, non-profit housing corporation for families with children who were unable to find housing elsewhere. The Lavanburg Homes were constructed in Manhattan in 1927, and in 1956, were donated to New York City. In the 1960s, the Lavanburg Foundation took on a second construction project, building the Lavanburg Villages in the Bronx. From 1927 to 2006, the Lavanburg Foundation also provided seed-money grants to organizations assisting in the foundation's mission of providing better housing and social support for low-income families. The Lavanburg Foundation closed in 2011.
