The letters document the military experiences of Charles and Joel Griswold of Guilford, Connecticut with the 15th Connecticut Infantry and Charles' service with the 29th Connecticut Infantry (Colored) during the Civil War. Hawkins commanding, from the time of their embarkation at New York City, June 5, 1861, until April 11, 1863.
