Abolitionist, reformer,and author. Redpath was appointed commissioner of emigration in the United States by Haitian president Geffrard in 1859. He founded the Haitian Emigrant Bureau in Boston and New York, and simultaneously published a newspaper, The Pine and Palmm (May 1861-), "devoted to the interests of freedom and of the colored races in America." He later became the Haitian Consul at Philadelphia and was instrumental in obtaining recognition of Haitian independence by the U.S. government.
