M. Louise Gross (1884-1951) worked as secretary to the New York City Tammany Hall district leader Thomas F. Foley and was active in anti-prohibition groups. After the repeal of prohibition in 1933 she continued in politics and in the 1940s was a registered lobbyist in Washington, D.C. for the Women's Moderation Union. Collection consists of correspondence, 1905-1939; records of the Women's Committee for Repeal of the 18th Amendment, 1927-1939; minutes, notices, correspondence, and printed matter, 1927-1933, received during the period of Gross's involvement with the Molly Pitcher Club, the Women's Moderation Union, the Women's Committee for Modification of the Volstead Act, and the National Women's Moderation Union for Legalizing Lotteries; and personal miscellany, ca. 1898-1933, such as receipts, certificates, report cards, and photographs.
