Samuel LeFrak (1918-2003) was an American real estate developer who was a member of the Lotos Club and the Friars Club. The Samuel LeFrak collection of publications contains the Lotos Club newsletter, Lotos Leaf; Lotos Club membership rosters from 1963 to 1971; Friars Club membership rosters from 1970 and 1971; a 1967 flier for a Friars stag celebrity luncheon; and programs and a seating list from the 1977 world premiere of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which was held as a benefit for cancer research. Issues of Lotos Leaf date from 1964 to 1971 and 1981 to 1987; some issues are missing from these years. References to LeFrak in Lotos Leaf are underlined. less

Founded in 1985, Lavender Light is a mixed chorus (women and men), consisting of members who have auditioned and run as a nonprofit organization. Although the group encompasses many ethnic and spiritual backgrounds, the choir provides a special ministry to Black lesbians and gays, who have historically been pressured by their communities to choose between their Blackness and their gayness. Their repertoire includes gospel (old and new), spirituals, and anthems. They produce two full concerts a year and frequently appear as guests at community functions, from church services to Gay Pride rallies. Past appearances have included Urban Bush Women's "Praise House"; the pilot episode of In the Life; the People of Color Joint Kwanzaa Ceremony; Mayor David N. Dinkins's Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at City Hall; and Empire State Pride Agenda's 1999 annual fundraiser with keynote speakers President Bill Clinton and Senator Chuck Schumer. This collection mostly consists of administrative files such as bylaws, membership information, Board of Directors materials, minutes, and fundraising documents. The Bohemians (New York Musicians' Club) is an organization made up of distinguished New York City musicians and music lovers that organizes dinners and chamber concerts for its members, supports young artists, and honors notable musicians.
