Scope and arrangement
The papers consist of personal correspondence, 1790-1824, and business correspondence, 1722-1822, with business clients, tobacco growers, and business associates in Ireland, England, Scotland, Europe, and America, including very interesting accounts of the effects on commerce and social life in Ireland of the French landing at Killala in County Mayo and the 1798 Irish rebellion in the north-west and south. There also are business accounts, 1726-1819, account books, 1755-1812, some account books recording workmen's hours and wages, banking, insurance, and legal papers, pamphlets, leaflets, and broadsides, published records of disbursement by the County of Dublin (Abstracts of Presentments) 1807-1819, and maps and surveys, 1723-1819.
